Amandine David
Amandine David is a designer and researcher. Her designs are the material traces of an exploratory quest and tell stories of crossovers, collaborations, explorations, failure and discoveries.
Amandine David is a designer and researcher. Her designs are the material traces of an exploratory quest and tell stories of crossovers, collaborations, explorations, failure and discoveries. After graduating in product design at La Martinière-Diderot (FR), her interest for craftsmanship and crosscultural collaboration led her to take part in Hors Pistes, a nomadic residency program initiating encounters between craftspeople and designers.
While obtaining her Master in Social Design at Design Academy Eindhoven (NL), Amandine became interested in the relation between traditional crafts and digital manufacturing.
With Crossing Parallels and Weaving Code, she worked with Esmé Hofman and Joris van Tubergen to create tools, objects and hybrid fabrication methods mixing traditional weaving techniques and 3D-printing. Previous and ongoing collaborations include TAAT, Z33, Crafts Council Nederland, Trame Paris, Ohme and Dutch Invertuals.
Amandine is currently teaching at KASK Gent, in the Autonomous design department. Her project Crossing Parallels is part of the collection of Design Museum Gent.

The jury decided to award the Young Talent Award to Amandine David, who in a short time, has specialised herself in traditional crafts such as weaving and pottery combined with digital methods. She effortlessly links craftsmanship and innovation. Furthermore, her professional approach and collaborative efforts with other designers and makers are admirable. The jury hopes that this award and cash prize will give her the boost she needs to break through internationally.
