Barco Demetra

It combines the best of analogue and digital image processing in a flexible, wireless handheld device. With only one device, dermatologists can take any kind of picture, dermoscopic, clinical close ups and overview pictures. Moreover Demetra is more than a dermatoscope. The solution is a complete “skin imaging platform”. The device receives the photos, photos are saved and analyzed in the correct patient file and they can be evaluated using a specific application. It also makes mapping, follow-up, and comparison of skin images smoother and smarter.

Demetra is a new value proposition in a, for Barco, new market, but is mostly based on tech- nological expertise. The medical market is very demanding and critical, that’s exactly why product scope and positioning are the key to success. Every detail counts! Demetra is co-developed with leading derma- tologists. Ergonomics and value were several times validated during the user-centered design process and validated in an iterative way. The hardware design as well as the graphical user interface were submitted several times to professional users. Details, color, material, position and buttons were considered carefully. Considering the restraints developing a med- ical device, such as biocompatible plastics and requirement to disinfect the device, there was great focus on the sustainability of Demetra. The energy consumption is for example low and packaging was optimized.
